Here is the official announcement from the TCDYC officers:

We will continue to monitor Rita - which is likely to reach Hurricane status in the next few hours and is currently projected to make landfall at West Galveston island on Saturday afternoon (although Hurricane prediction this far out is subject to average errors measured in hundreds of miles).

On Tuesday afternoon we will review the latest forecast information from the National Hurricane Center and make one of three decisions:

(1) Defer the regatta to the weekend of October 15th
(2) Delay our decision by no more than 24 hours (Wed pm)
(3) Decide to go ahead with the regatta (looking unlikely based on current information).

Keep watching http://texascitydike.com for the latest information.

We have decied to postpone the Wayward Winds regatta until October 15th/16th because of the potential impact of Hurricane Rita. A 3ft storm surge would cover the beach, and a 5ft surge covers the dike entirely.

Watching Rita this AM. Have friends in the Keys. Sounds like you made a good decision.

Although my motto is "at the first sign of storm -WE SAIL!" there is a point where "better safe than sorry" makes sense too 8)
