It's much easier to put the drive in on land while taking off the car/truck/trailer as long as you bungee one pedal back so the fins are flat to the bottom and remember not to drag the boat with the hull flat on the ground. So much less pressure to get the drive in correctly and seeing what is wrong then, instead of during a launch with a shore break, current, obstacles and/or traffic.
Then, with this experience, it makes it much easier to install correctly on the water when necessary. After the first 100 times, it gets easy.
