Sounds like you have some experience with this...

Event has been and gone.

I do not want to attend events such as this that are biased in one way or another.(espectially where I have to pay to compete).

It is a shame that the competition has banned Pedal and sail, it just goes to show hobie as one of the most progressive and cutting edge design teams around.

In New Zealand we have had similar issues in the yachting world, in respect of something called the Americas Cup (another topic entirely).
Where it took many years for acceptance of design elements that were superior, faster, lighter etc etc than the competition.

I liked to compare canoes and kayaks to two different design categories (although i am sure there are more).
1/ Innuit Kayak
2/ Polynesian canoe.

The basic rules of the competition allow a reference to type 1 (innuit) being a paddle kayak.
However, to date the kayaks entered are almost all rotationally moulded or injection moulded plastic, carbon, glass fibre etc, 90% or more would be 'sit on' , and almost all would have depth sounders / chart plotters / fish finders.
only 1-2 people would use a traditional wooden inuit paddle, and spear fishing (harpoon - such as used by seal hunters in norway) would be a definite no-no.

In summary.
It is a totally biased, one sided, view that would not allow hobies (Mirage) due to it not being a 'traditional kayak' and then allow all of the other non-traditional methods in some form of two-faced attitude to the sport.
