I am gravitating towards a single-blade paddle for my new Adventure Island - no tramp.

The logical place to stow a single-blade paddle seems to be behind me under a couple of the aft bungees with the handle sticking out a little on one side of the seat back where I can grab it quickly.

Works.... but stowing it isn't so quick because I have to reach around and find a bungee to tuck it under.

I am thinking a paddle holster would be worth the time/money: something where I can just jam the paddle in blind and have it stay there until needed again......not a paddle clip that holds the shaft...... more like a gun holster that the blade gets jammed into.

Does anybody use something like this?

Pix?

Not using one, but something like the "T-H Marine PK1DP Paddle Keeper" might do the trick for you.

http://www.amazon.com/T-H-Marine-3001-7703-Paddle/dp/B0000AXRQ8

I considered this one at one time, but alternatively decided to go with two wide open oar locks - one mounted on my front hatch, and one on the side rail in front of me. But I still think the T-H paddle keeper would have worked well in this position as well. I used to just rest the paddle between those two points when fishing, so that it's readily available, rather than having to spin around and find the paddle or try to blindly find the bungee hold-downs in back of me at those times when I really needed to keep my eyes in front of me when I also needed the paddle. I didn't like any of the paddle holders I tried, because they wouldn't just support the paddle without having to clumsily 'snap' or finagle the paddle in and out of the holder; and I didn't like the noise it made, especially if I'm trying to make my way into a fishing zone quietly. I thought about modifying them by sanding out the catch points to see if I could get them to hold the paddles more loosely, but instead went with oar locks. The open oar locks allow me to just rest the paddle in the holders without making a lot of noise. They spin, making them easy to engage and set in place with the paddle from any angle; and the paddle nests nicely in the holder so it wont fall off the hatch or side rail and into the boat or the water like was happening to me before. I'll see about getting a pic of the setup and post it later on.
