Alright! After tapping the shaft so that equal amounts were sticking out both sides, everything worked fine. :D

If the shaft is moving off center on its own, you might try exposing the splines, putting a little Locktite Blue on them and re-centering (the splines should be clean). If you need something stronger, a dab of epoxy should also work. If the C&G still releases, there are a couple of ways to lock it down (it's highly unusual to to go to this extreme).

This one is easier to incorporate:

But this one is easier to operate:

I can send details if you need them. 8)

Hi Roadrunner

I would appreciate it if you could send me the details for this fix.

Hey Roadrunner and/or zarbs. Could you send me those links/info too? I'm having a problem with my 2012 PA14.

Tip on removing a Click N Go unit
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=38832&p=158525&hilit=click+go#p158525

Once removed and disassembled, here is what everything looks like You need an extra 1/4 x 20 allenhead barrel screw just like the Hobie mounting screws pictured. Your Hobie dealer should have one if your local hardware store doesn't

Here's what version one looks like. On the plus side, it is the easiest to do and works great. On the negative side, you have to leave tht cover off and work the screw by hand (no space for a knob).
Image
Simply drill the hole as shown. You 'll need a tap to thread the hole for the screw. The Teflon tape is to wrap around the threads to keep the screw from wandering out of position. Nick or notch the end of the threads screw to keep it from accidentally coming out (back-up for the tape). That's all there is to it. Use Loctite Blue when reassembling the C&G unit to lock the screws in position.

The second version is better -- allows you to use the covers and a knob fitted over the screw's barrel head to quickly and easily lock and unlock the swivel arm.
Image
The green highlighted area is your tapped hole in the swivel and the pink is a filed clot for the screw to fit in to complete your lock. A quarter of a turn is all you need to unlock and lock it. I found the cap in the hardware section at Home Depot so they're around -- slides right on to the screw's barrel head snugly and grips it nicely.

Another view -- you can see the screw tip barely sticking out.

Note the swivel arm spring rotates forward when the unit unlocks, not rearward. Make sure your location selection clears this space! Here's a pic showing the right side unlocked and the spring location:

You'll usually find the Drive pops out on one side only so you shouldn't have to do both sides. If you have any other questions or need more pics, don't hesitate. 8)

I do indeed have the splined drum shaft. I noticed that the drums themselves could easily slide outward on the shaft. A couple of the cables had quite a bit of slack in them. I tightened them up and that did make it more difficult for the drums to move. I'll let you know how that worked out after I use them.
