I'm looking at buying a used 2007 Mirage Sport Kayak- It comes with the older standard mirage paddles, and I would want to upgrade to theST Turbo fins and bigger rudder for sailing use. I saw a "Performance Package" which includes both the rudder and Turbo fins, but it said it only worked with V2 of the mirage drive? Would a 2007 Sport have V1 or V2 drive? If it has V1, is there another part I could get to put Turbo fins on the 2007 Sport model?

Different parts changed at different times... not a clean change to V2.

V2 drum shaft for CNG & V2 Sprockets/masts 2009 model year
V2 Drums/cables Spring 2008

I wouldn't. Those older models are known for cracking in the peddle well area under stress, especially if you use Turbo fins. It would have to be one heck of a deal before I would buy one of those year models, like $500 with no cracks, you need to do an actual water demo to discover hair line cracks, look inside the hull at the well area cam columns to see if they are cracked or broken. Anything 2009 or after is much better with reinforced well molding.
See here for problem/preventive fix.

Thank you Matt. And also the other responder. Very helpful info. I will be looking for a 2009 or newer used Hobie.

2 other questions, if I can.

1. I'm looking for ease of transporting - getting the kayak up onto arooftop cargo rack, so I had been looking at the Sport model. I was wondering if it would be worth considering the R11 or R13 because they might track a little better under sail, and carry more cargo. Any thoughts?

2. In looking at used Hobie Mirage kayaks, what would you be paying attention to on inspection?

Thanks again. Charles
