The scupper drain gives you some choices: if it's calm, you can keep it closed and keep the cockpit dry; if it's rough out, you can lock it open so unnecessary water doesn't build up in the cockpit (if it's rough, you're going to get wet one way or the other in the Revo 16). If it's a one time swell that washes into the cockpit, you can do a 360, drain the water off and close it again.
Best of all, it's much easier to use than the older plugs! Although it doesn't solve all problems, it's a great improvement over the older system.
