Turbo Fins

I just bought a new Revolution. I am considering getting Turbo Fins, but I see so many posts on different forums with the quality of them I have decided against buying them now. I am wondering if Hobie has any plans on making them a little tougher. When I read about people trashing their turbo fins after 2 and 3 times out, I just think they should be redesigned to hold up better. I know that they are considered more delicate because they are high performance but has Hobie thought of comming out with a tougher inbetween built to last?

i've had my turbo fins for 4 months and have bumped and beached 'em probably 20 times or more. no problems.

I have a Hobie revolution with turbo fins, there is no design flaw with the system, I run aground, hit underwater stump, I leave them in the Kayak 100% of the time, they get hit and banged around during transportation, loading and un load, launching and landing. Maybe I got lucky and got a mirage drive that was superior to everyone else, which I find highly unlikely there all built on the same line with the same parts, with the same people. I say go for it, remember you only hear of the problems and a few of the countless hundreds of people who use there mirage drives everyday. By the way I average about 3 times a week in the revolution so they get used a lot! lets say you do have a problem, Hobie and your dealer will take good care of you to get you back on the water ASAP!

Congratulations and welcome to the forum. The Revo is a great choice and I'm sure you'll enjoy it! For now, as you become comfortable with the operation and use of the drive, especially in shallow water, the standard fins are ideal.

If you're content with the performance you get with the standard fins then you're all set! If you're from the San Diego area and want to try out the Turbos, you're more than welcome to check out mine before you decide. Ultimately though, if you want more speed or range, you'll end up getting a set; when you do, I'm pretty sure you're going to find they are well worth your investment!

My wife and I rented a Tandem mirage at the Oceanside, CA.
harbor on Saturday (3-3-07), I had a blast.
Due to work injuries I am unable to use my right arm/hand, so the Mirage is the only way for me power a boat.
I was going to the harbor to rent a couple of singles (classic) Hobies, next weekend.
BUT, I would like to try out an adventure before purchasing one.

Hi Bil.

Sounds like a great plan! I've e-mailed you with my phone #. I'll bring the Adventure and the Turbofins.

I have turbos on an Adventure and on an Outback. As long as you adjust them to the kayak, they work great -- except for engagements with seaweed (fresh water). If you loosen them up, they peddle quite easy at the expense of some top end speed. As your legs get stronger, tighten them up a bit.
