Worthy Candidate for a Hobie Sponsorship

Kayaking while blind is great with the help from your friends. Doing it in a Hobie is even better. Attempting to cross a busy international shipping lane in a narrow strait with up to 6 to 7 kt. currents is stupid. It is dangerous not only to himself, but to other shipping as well. Anyone who has found himself in front of a fast moving freighter knows that they can't stop for you. Furthermore, just the wakes from these ships can swamp a kayak instantly. These waters are not for recreational use. The subject's use of his blind walking stick mounted on the boat as a beacon to alert everyone that he is blind shows a clear lack of understanding of the limits of sight as well as the potential consequences if his actions.

Any company that would sponsor such a foolish effort is complicit in the activity and liable for any resulting injuries or damages -- IMO.

Definitely going to be dangerous. But with the right combo of tech devices and planning, ie: a day with minimal current and other ideal conditons, I wouldn't go so far as to say the guy's dream undertaking is stupid. That being said I wouldn't cross from Alameda to San Francisco or Tiburon to Richmond on a zero visibility day in my Hobie. That's dangerous enough on a powerboat with radar.
