Faster Hobie Kayak?

Possible but I don't think that it could take the stress of the Mirage Drive. Keep in mind that as we push the pedals back and forth, there's a lot of stress being placed on the wells that they sit on.

Two possible solutions is a) To use lighter material and b) Thinner existing material but neither would be strong enough to handle the stress.

There would be a lot more cracked well areas.

Carbon fiber mabye? Or mabye a little bit of both? Plastic bottom for durability and mabye a carbon fiber top half? Just throwin out ideas here to see if somebody that knows something gets something to pop into their head.

Good point, I wanted an AI but its too big & heavy for me to Van-top and drag about.
I can get someone to help me but then I cant offer them a ride.
Maybe two-place Sailing craft are like two-place Aeroplanes, much more fun!

Jeanne and I sailed Mission Bay with this arrangement. We found that one rudder can steer both boats in most conditions. Also, when only one pedals, the boats still go straight! Speed is definitely better with both pedaling and sailing, and better than going solo. Not sure I understand the physics of that, except the boats don't heel.

ive actually talked to the design team about this when i did a school project with hobie...asked what would happen if we put the mirage into my sea kayak which is 17 feet long and only 21 inches wide...they said it become innefficent as you pick up speed because the fins sweeping up and down actually start to pull the boat out of the water then pull it down basically bouncing along....said it just didnt work past a certain speed
