I'm going to look at a Revolution 13 tomorrow. The seller says it's a 2021 - but one of the pictures shows the attached as the Mirage drive for it. I'm trying to learn as fast as I can about Hobie kayaks, but perhaps someone can save me some time and potential mistaken purchase.

From reading many posts, it seems that in 2018, all Mirage (including Revolution) kayaks came with the MD180 v3 drives. So, should have oval crank arms with pins on end to adjust, kick up fins, etc. Yet the picture seems to be that of a v1 with adjustment screw. Also, the boat color is grayish/white - and that appears to be a 2020. Is it possible this drive was from another kayak and put into this one?

Thanks in advance from someone who hopes to by a Revo 13 owner in the not too distant future!

ok - instead of trying to figure out how to post a picture, the https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/807139448187611

ok - I can post a reply to my own post! Through much reviewing of posts on this forum, I've learned a TON about Hobie kayaks - and specifically about Mirage drives. I now know I want a Mirage 180 drive. The flip up would be nice to have, but not required. Since I'll be fishing and also doing general kayaking, the Revolution is the boat for me. I think the 13' is a batter choice for not much more $$.

As for the one I was looking at - it was NOT a 2021. Once I asked questions via e-mail - along with photos and YouTube video links that showed his boat (color) and drive configuration, I was pretty certain it was a 2017. I also sent a link to one of the posts on this forum on how to determine the year from the s/n - and sure enough it was a 2017. And it was clearly a v1 drive. The owner claimed he bought it new in 2020 (and thus why he thought it was a model year 2021) from a dealer (who he wouldn't answer as to who it was). I mentioned that I'd be following up with Hobie as that dealer should never have sold a 2017 with a v1 drive. At a minimum, the dealer knew that upgrades were free and should have addressed it before selling. Of course, I could have bought it and upgraded it - but at an expense.

With the glaring differences from his listing, I said I'd need a bit of a concession on the price. He said that others were willing to take it as is and said he'd be moving on to them (even though the listing was incorrect when they became interested) He then blocked me and sold it elsewhere.
I hope they buyer was aware of the discrepancies (a 2021 would have had the upgraded drive and also flip-up).

I share all this because of my appreciation of all the great knowledge shared through the various posts on this site. I knew exactly what he had - and what it would take to do the upgrades. While it was likely still a decent buy - it wasn't what I wanted.

So, I'll continue to educate myself on this site -and continue my search for the right boat. I hope to test drive a Revo 13 tomorrow at a somewhat local dealer (the 2 closest do not carry the Revolution line). I know the PA is too expensive for my budget, too heavy and too fishing focused. The Outback looks good - but still a bit too much for my needs (although if one came along for the right price...). The compass could work, but it doesn't appear to have the 180 drive.

Thanks so much to the many contributors of this site and for all the sharing you do.

Ok, I've learned that this forum doesn't do attachments - so I've uploaded my photos to Flickr so that you folks can see them. The 2 pictures below are the boat and another that shows the drive. Based on color and drive - I figured it had to be a 2017, which was later confirmed by the seller.

Anyway, can you all confirm this was a v1 drive? Can you also determine MY of boat?

Thanks!!
