After buying a new sounder, and having owned one for a while and getting a feel for where i want to mount it, and how, i decided to change the mounting system for my new Humminbird.
I wanted an easy, lightweight, removeable bracket, that wasn't permanent, but was close at hand, in easy view and reach in the seating position. I looked around the shed and found some 1.6mm Aluminium, and decided this would be perfect.
I wanted the sounder close, but didn't want it to close... So i can reach and adjust it on the move, but not impede my landing abilities. I decided the storage pocket on the right was the best posi, now how to mount it...
This is what i came up with.
The aluminium was easy to bend on the bench, and the bends mean, along with some glued on strips of pool noodle, the whole bracked fits snug and tight. The wingnut at the bottom screws onto a bolt thru the bottom of the pocket, which is well sealed. The power cable and tranny line pass thru the down a grommet, which has extra sealing with sikaflex.
To remove the assembly, you simply undo the wingnut, unhook the power and tranny line, and lift it out. And if you choose not to use it, it is quite minimal in its parts.
Seems to sit solid and snug, and is close, easy to reach, and lightweight.
Perfect
