Has anyone found armrests that fit the gunwales of the Outback? It seems like a natural accessory for the kayak, but I don't find it in the Hobie accessory catalog.

The bar is already there - cup holders in the gunwales.

The front hatch is just right for a six-pack cooler.

Seriously, I think the use of armrests is more than comfort. When sailing the Outback with the sail kit, I find myself leaning one way or another to help balance the kayak. My elbow naturally leans on the gunwale, and an armrest would help make it more comfortable.

I have tried using ordinary foam for armrests, but it soaks up water and becomes too wet. I will try closed-cell foam stuffed into a gear sack.

That's interesting. I thought you were joking 'cuz my elbows are nowhere near the armrests ...I mean gunwale. Even when I'm sailing my outback, I am switching seat sides a bit, but haven't thought about leaning on the gunwales. Then again, since I'm a newbie at this sailing thing, I sail very conservatively.

I did some "on the edge" sailing today with my new sailing rudder. I now see, to some extent. what you are talking about, having rested my elbows on the upwind gunwale during heavier winds. I wonder if a cut-to length large diameter pool noodle might be the ticket. Not sure how I'd secure it. Velcro maybe?
