Securing the Mirage Drive

If like me, you take your Mirage Drive out before landing, and put it i after launching, you will probably feel some level of paranoia about losing it overboard.

Well, not any more!!!!

With my new "Mirage Drive Holding to the Deck Retaining Cord With Clips", you too can ease your mind!!!!!!!!!!!

Its stupidly easy, 300mm of 3mm Spectra, preferably matching the kayak in colour, 2 x stainless clips, and a bit of heat shrink, also matching the kayak to increase the pimp factor.

The Hobies have a convenient clip at the front of the footwell for no apparent reason and it's the perfect fixing point. I find dropping the drive in and pulling it out second nature these days, and this setup ensures it stays on deck, it cannot fall off, it's impossible.

Well, if you dont mind a trip downunder mate, Bunnings is the best place for any hardware stuff. But i would suggest you would have a massive super hardware chain of stores equivelant to that over there somewhere. Also electrical distributers may also sell it.

It's great stuff for tidying up all your knots, easy to use, and the end result is super proffesional.

Radio Shack, West Marine and a number of internet sources have heat shrink available. It is in many different sizes and colors. Mostly in red and black. Adhesive is better, especially if you want to secure or finish lines

This is what I did. I never unhook it from shore to shore.

Sorry, but the problem is not how to attach the Mirage drive when not in use, but to keep it leashed to the boat at all times when on the water. Very easy to do with any number of different types of lines, leashes, wires, or cables. Some folks drill holes in the Mirage drive to which they attach the securing line. I prefer to use a non-invasive (no drilling) attachment setup using a SS shackle, as shown below. I generally use piece of parachute cord with a couple of fittings at each end. Here are a couple of pics of one of my current rigs.
