I don't think they are for sale yet, but might be of interest to some. The transducer still hangs below the hull but will be protected.

This new product seems to be a good solution for those guys who have the Totalscan unit, but $49 seems to be a bit costly for a molded plastic cover/shield.

Actually I am looking to add a total scan transducer along with one of the new really nice big screen depth/ fish finders with chart plotting (some really good stuff out there it appears now ( almost too many good choices, how do you choose the right one ????).
My TI is an older 2012 model, but fortunately I have a fiberglass planing hull mod I built for the stern, I think I can carve that out and fit the transducer inside then cover with the new Hobie cover. This way I don't need to mod the hull itself (a scary proposition). Actually it will be cool because the hull mod is easily removed (just a strap on), if I want to just go kayaking, the transducer stays with the hull mod (likely don't need all the fancy electronics when just kayaking)
That Hobie transducer cover is the final piece of the puzzle for me (Thanks Hobie).
Now I just need to spend another big bag of money (lol)

Hi Bob,
I just went through researching and buying a FF unit this past Spring. I highly recommend the Lowrance TI Elite 7. The 7 inch screen is well worth the extra viewing space. The touch screen and faster processor are desirable. Like you, I have two non Lowrance ready Hobies. I mount my transducer through the scupper hole in the rear. Use some PVC or PVC riser threaded to cap, drill out the cap and run your transducer chord thru it. You don't need the totalscan transducer, unless your searching for shipwrecks? The 83/200 HDI transducer will be fine for your applications. You still get DSI, you just don't have the large scanned area at one time as you would with the totalscan ducer.
I'm going to use the 50/200 HDI on my TI for greater depths here in CR over 200-300ft. I've been using the 83/200 HDI on my Revolution 11, all summer and soon again in Costa Rica. Very impressed so far with the unit. Plan to do my own mapping in CR with Reefmaster software.

Mark:
That's kind of the one I've been zeroing in on (I want that big screen, if I'm spending a great deal of money, might as well get something I will be happy with is my thought).
We don't fish at all (besides spear fishing, where we can select from the menu (lol)). But we are avid scuba divers and I was thinking that total scan sonar might help us find cool previously undiscovered dive spots, most of that stuff is word of mouth, and most dive captains/masters don't share, and on a charter dive you will have your gps thrown overboard if they see one.
Who knows someday I might happen on a spanish gold ship ( more likely an old tire (lol)). Actually just going out looking would be an absolute blast, who the heck cares if I find anything, it's the hunt and adventure that's fun for us. Just like us and lobster hunting in mini season, we suck at it really bad, but always have the time of our lives, and always have a huge lobster boil inviting all our friends when we get back to the house ( I stop at the fish market on the way home, then we tell our tall stories of the ones that got away ( usually all of them). We do the same exact thing when spear fishing as well, We have a blast, then I stop at the fish market on the way home.
Ok we party a lot, and five 1 lb lobsters can't feed a dozen people.
FE

Imagine coming home with this to a dozen friends who have likely been drinking for quite a while, ( I might get boiled instead).
