New Hobie fiber shaft paddles

I see that Hobie has the new fiber shaft 2 piece paddles #74075001 compared to the older aluminum shaft paddles #74076001.

Am I correct in believing the the newer fiber paddles will be standard issue for all Hobie 2010 kayaks? Including the Tandem Island which comes with 2 paddles?

I also assume that these new fiber paddles are lighter? I've compared my old aluminum paddle to some of my kayaking friends' paddles and the Hobie aluminum is kinda heavy.

Yes,

Standard on all models for 2010, but not sure "light" was the issue. Strength is a key factor too.

We have had Fiber paddles for a couple years. Were standard on paddle models last year.

My circa 2005 paddles are still going strong and have held up quite well.
Figured any ounces shaved off the weight is a plus while paddling.

From my point of view for my wife and I. My couple of older Hobie kayaks will greatly benefit from a 2010 Island tandem. All my old drive/seat/paddles get replaced with 2 new hi back seats w/ inflating lumbar the 2 new "V2" drives and 2 new fiber paddles.

There has been some nice upgrades in the last few years!

Its about time! I saw the new ones last year, they look like they where actually made for hobie my a reputable paddle manufacturer. I had 4 of the aluminum ones that came with my 08 outfitters, i have one left (only because I won't use it anymore) They all broke at the plastic/aluminum juction, I still gotta bring the pieces to my dealer and see what he thinks, hopefully they give me at least one of the new style paddles to destruction test... at least my carlisle's have never let me down!!
A WORD TO THE WISE - if you travel long distances from shore and you have an aluminum handled hobie paddle, sell it and get something more reliable, they will fail. Also upgrading to V2 hubs will save you some paddling....turbo fins on V1 hubs will eventually fail.

Where do I find info about the V2 and V1 hubs? Not sure what you are talking about. thanks

Last year (July09) I purchased a Hobie Revo and was given a Alum Paddel. Are you saying that I was entitled to the Carbon Fiber paddel?

No... Mirage Models came with Aluminum paddles through the 2009 model year. Only paddle models came with Fiberglass shafts (these are not not carbon fiber).

I have repaired a number of loose paddle blades with a 3M product called 5200. They now have a quicker setting type. The original has to set for a few days. Be sure to keep the blade properly oriented to the shaft because when it dries it is pretty much permanent.
