I have not seen this issue before, so I'm putting it out there for others to watch for. My 09 Revo developed a small crack/split on the port side, forward drive well area inside, at the location of the moulded in relief point thats sticks down for the Click and Go screw/nut placement. I have lost all confidence in now taking her offshore as it looks to be getting a lil bigger as of the last use. I have only used this particular hull 3 times. Noticed it after second trip and thought it was just discoloration but last night it looked wider pronounced and I actually was able to put my fingernail in it. I will post a pic ASAP. Can't believe it, it's otherwise a pristine hull with out a scratch.

After further inspection tonight I noticed it had spread to a T type of spider leg split vice a single line split. To even attempt to fix you would need to dis-assemble the port click and go, drill the ends of all cracks/splits and center of the spider then apply adhesive to secure as a temp fix. Given that this is the actual anchor /stress point for the drive it will eventually spread and the Click and Go WILL fail as its grip releases and comes out of its anchor housing. If the fitting is a press/adhesive fit or a spread fit by way of tightening the allen head screw it may have been over tightened at the factory or insuffient material adhered to the fixture relief setting during manufacturing.

Now I'm left with, is this a sign,,,,, do I want to pull the trigger on the AI or stay replacement REVO.

Sammy, sorry to hear about the problem. Since this seems to be quite rare, yet was only the third time out for this boat, it seems likely this was a rotomolding defect.

I think a quick and easy fix (at least for the time being) is to find a PVC cap that slips over the split piece, fill it with Scotchweld DP 8010 and cover the entire protrusion. That should take care of it permanently. Yakaholic has applied this product and technique successfully to split seat plugs. I've also used the 8010 in high stress areas with excellent results.

I don't think you need to bother with drilling the splits, etc, since the glue should be capable of handling all the stresses while containing any damage. Use the usual safety precautions -- double latex gloves (or equivalent) and good ventilation.

Thanks for the heads up! 8)

RR, thanx for the reply. Initially that was the idea, to cover it in a cup and fill the cup with the adhesive. After feeling around front and back, it is an elongated setting/molding. Even if I could, I don't find it a permanent solution as I don't want to be at the 1yr 11mo point and have a further deterioration stacked against the warranty. Also during the inspection last night I noticed the same initial discloration on the starbord forward setting, you can see a part of the Click and Go mount edge thru the plastic. It is a black vertical line about 1/16th to 1/8 wide exactly where you see the split in my photo. The aft areas on both P and S do not show this. I 'm wondering if that is next!!

also of note,,, to me personally is my confidence in this hull is no longer 100%. I MUST have that to continue going offshore in this craft. Thats why I paid top dollar, its simply the best craft made, 3 modes of propulsion. I need that to ensure I'm getting home. I don't want to sweat/freak 5mi out. Too many other things can go wrong at sea. I can't even explain it to the wife.....I've got well over $5grand in gear and add ons tied up in this.

I defer to what Matt has stated to others in the past about trying to apply a fix in the well area----

Topic: Re: Crack in the drive well : Adventure Island Posted: Wed Nov 18, 2009 11:14 am

Q.-Philip1el: would a crack in the drivewell as seen in the first post/photo of this topic be repairable by plastic welding or are the stresses in that area such that the welds would simply give again under load?

A. Matt: We don't recommend repair. We suggest you file a claim with a dealer. If it is a warrantable issue, depending on age, it may be replaced at no charge or replaced with a pro-rated cost.

Oh man Sammy I hate to hear that. You've been helpful to me on my recent Revo purchase and now this.

I have what I consider an excellent dealer here, and when I was about to leave with boat, I asked again about warranty, how long, etc. ... he just replied don't worry about it, we'll take care of it. I just said Ok, being I know them well and have high confidence.

I'll be sure and keep an eye on the stress points per your photo. Hope you get things solved.
Mark

Sammy that really stinks man. I hope you get it figured out soon. I wouldn't even begin to know if that is safley repairable. I would def. feel the same way about going offshore in a boat with any sort of known defect. Like you said, there is just too much that can go wrong and you don't need equipment malfunction on top of Mother Nature. Hopefully your local dealer will make it right, whatever the outcome might be. We all know that Hobie has great support - hopefully your dealer and Hobie will make it right for you. Keep us posted. :(

Thanks CrazyAl and MNormand.

To add insult to the injury I got busted tonight. The wife thing. The camera was on the kitchen table and she was watching me constantly with the head inside the yak after work and had been asking yesterday and today, am I going fishing, and I guess intuition kicked in, so she looked on the camera memstick and found it. Not good for the blank check I had been enjoying for toys. I imagine the weekend will be question and answer time. Bummer too that we are gunna have rain and high winds for Saturday and its our tournament opening weekend. I go thru periods like this,,,,A heap of bad stuff for a short period and then its ALLLL good for a long time.

I need to be careful tomorrow driving to work in case its not over yet.
