Portable Stern Light

I am looking for a stern light for my outback.
I see that there are a number of ones available that are suction cup mounted:
Hydrostar S.O.S Deluxe - 39.95
Aqua Signal LED Stern Light - 30.00
Scotty Light - 26.00
Does anyone have any experience with these??

check out e-flares, they make a marine version I use on my AI, excellent. I first came across them in my work as a firefighter, if we use them they have to be good!

They have one for around $65, just not as fancy but works very good, nice and bright and lasts along time on batteries.

I like both eflares and yakattack ones.
I took one look at the yakattack visipole carbon pro and was sold.
I have just talked to Luther (owner of YakAttack) and have ordered their VisiPro model.
I like the idea that it fits into a rod holder and folds up when not in use.
I did get an extra segment added to the pole to make up for the decrease in height due to our slanted rod holders.

I have the Hydrostar and it has worked great. My problem was that the rough surface on the Pro Angler didn't work with the suction cup. I solved this by cutting a circle out of the clear plastic that the light came packed in and then using silicone to attach that circle to the front hatch of the PA. Now I have a nice smooth surface that the suction cup latches onto without issue. I just have to be careful not to pull the plastic circle off with the suction cup when I remove it from the boat -- I have to pry up the edge of the suction cup to release.

West Marine sale flyer (good 7/8 - 7/18) has a "C-Light Personal Light" Model 184749 -- "Bright 360 deg incandescent light can be seen up to two miles away"..."Now fits all inflatable PFDs!" for $11.99. I should think it could be fitted on a pole to serve the purpose for a kayak...

My VisiPole Carbon Pro from YakAttack arrived last Wednesday exactly when Luther said it would arrive (I ordered it the previous Friday).
It arrived in a substantial cardboard box to protect it during shipping.
I am extremely impressed with its high quality and substantial construction.
It is not often these days that you find a product that is first rate and this one is manufactured completely in the USA.
The 2 LED lights inside the lens make it a highly visible stern light.
The light is turned on or off by rotating the lens; it takes a firm twist to the thick knurled lens base to do this; it is not loose.
Its segments fold easily and are strong when assembled.
The segments are held together to form a pole by a shock cord the same way that tent poles are constructed.
I had an extra segment added to the pole to bring it to 61 inches.
On my Hobie Outback, it will fit into a rod holder or into the mast holder just ahead of the drive unit.
I have not had a chance to go out onto the lake with it yet but will report later.

I glued a Coleman Mini Camp Light (WalMart $9.00) to a piece or 1" PVC 40" (Hardware store $2.00.) long and mount this to my crate. Works for me!

Took the Outback onto the lake last night along with the VisiPole.
Mounted the pole in the starboard rear rod holder.
Attached its static strap to the seat static strap which is in turn attached to the cargo web to hold it in place.
Was out for an hour and the light burned bright the whole time.
There were other boats on the lake and they steered clear of me due to the light.
It is a very visible stern light.
I'm glad I had an extra segment added by Luther to bring the total length to 61 inches; since the Kayak is low in the water, the higher the light the better.
It felt like I had a full moon over my right shoulder but not bright enough to be distracting and not bright enough to interfere with my view of my surroundings.
It did cast a dim glow to the forward part of the boat - I could easily see the bow handle.
I definitely like the product and am considering getting another for my girlfriends Outback.

Got a second YakAttack Visipole Carbon Plus for my girlfriends Outback.
Also got an extra segment added to it to get its length to 61 inches.
Same quality - great product.
