I've had my Oasis for a couple of months now and I'm ready to make some changes. The question is how much change should I make? I plan on replacing the rear drive fins with the ST Turbo fin kit. OK no problem there as I have the sail kit and everything I've read here has said the ST Turbos are a real bonus for sailing. The question I'm pondering is what about the fins for the front rider? Certainly I could go with another set of Turbos. But then again the standard length ST's have good efficiency, can be quickly interchanged with the original fins and give me the option of having two different sizes for different conditions. By the way, about half the time I use this boat solo so the two different sizes might have some merit for use in the rear position. Any advice from more experienced yakkers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! :? Roger

I'd go with both Turbo, but why not do one set and see. You can always switch drives during a trip to try. After trying on my first set of Turbo fins, I switched all but one drive, and then switched it a year later when I realized I hadn't used them in all that time.

I've got a Revolution, and an Adventure Island. Both have Turbo fins. I can't see any benefit to using anything but. The added resistance isn't that much of an issue, and I really like that you can pedal with less strokes per mile. Unless you're extremely worried about a very little bit of added resistance, I'd go Turbo's front and rear, of course, I'm not you! :)

Thanks guys! That's the direction of been thinking of going. Initially I thought well with the standard ST's I could get by a little cheaper. But then as I thought about it longer, it's only a difference of $40 so why waste my time or money on something I wouldn't end up using anyway. I think the two sets of Turbos will be the best way to go. Augaug, if those cold Canadian winters get to you in the future, let me know. You might find a trip to south Texas to your liking sometime around February. The only thing that freezes down here is the ice I store for my post kayaking libations. Later - Roger :)

Mmmmm Texas in February! I've been to Texas a long time ago, in the summer. I remember it being very flat! But don't discount the fun that you can have up here in a good Canadian winter!

In our TI we have the ST fins in the front for my wife and the Turbo fins in the back for me. She blew out her knee decades ago and just can't drive the big fins, but the STs work fine for her.

Hey Augaug Thanks for the winter invite. However, until last year I lived for the previous 35 years within 5 miles of the Southwest corner of Yellostone National Park in Idaho. I have done everything imaginable engaging in the pursuit of winter fun. One of the best events in my life was handing my snowshovel to my neighbor as I left to come down here. I hope you don't take this as snobbery but if I never see a snow drift again, I'll be OK with it. :D - Roger

Not taken as snobbery at all! :) I'm still young and wired a little differently. I love all of the seasons up here. Although, admittedly, summer is the best one for the Hobie! I can't ever fault someone for handing over their snow shovel though... even if I do find it oddly therapeutic!

But I will admit, I've met a lot of Americans who just can't understand why someone would want to live "way up in Canada" with the cold and the snow. I've been to 42 states and all ten provinces, and I can't think of a better place for me to live then Canada. I hope nobody takes that as snobbery!

But RPL, you do realize that if I ever head back to Texas, that I'm gonna look you up!!
