Hi All,

Just upgraded to a Hobie Pro Angler but still waiting for maiden voyage due to cyclones, flooding and generally just plain rotten weather. In the mean time I have been setting up my PA plus a loading system for my UTE (or pickup truck in the US).

Looking forward to the resources on this forum.

Glenn, two nice videos. I just bought an Outback and can't go fishing because of the weather also. I've only got to go fishing one time and I'm about to die. I spent this evening working on the rigging on my outback. What did you upgrade from? I've been fishing in a Wilderness Ride since October and have upgraded to the Outback. I live inland USA, Arkansas. I fish Reservoirs, small lakes and rivers. I imagine your a salty fisherman. That Pro Angler is one nice ride, I know your proud. I am going to try to fish with mine a little more before I finish rigging it out. Have you been kayaking long? My next purchase is going to be a video camera.

Love the video. Can you give me some info. on your camera mount that you have on the front of your rack. Thanks - Cheryl

Hi,

It is quite a simple setup with components placed in the following sequence.

1 A ram ball mount bolted to the boat.
2 Then a ram connector.
3 Then ram U bolt connector for the aluminium pipe.
4 A 2 foot long piece of 1 inch aluminium pipe.
5 Then GoPro handlebar style mount at end of the aluminium pipe.
6 Then a Gopro Hero Camera



I sercure the camera back to the boat with some bungee cord and this also helps stabilize the camera from shaking.

Hi,

I upgraded from a power boat - least I reckon this was an upgrade - and I have never had a Kayak before. Kayaking just feels right because man-handling a large power boat has become an issue for me. I love fishing and mainly fish inland freshwater dams as I live 150 miles from the ocean in Queensland.

The "Outback" was on my shopping list and this boat only just missed out - I sort of liked the PA seat and being able to stand up. However I got my sights on a Hobie "Sport" for days I don't feel like dealing with the quite heavy Pro Angler.

I can reccomend the GoPro hero as a great video camera and its quite well priced I think.

Glenn, which go pro camera did you buy? Does it have a remote switch to turn it on or do you swing it around to turn it on and off? I've been thinking of either mounting it on my hat or mounting it on a poll behind me. If I mount it behind me on a poll I'll have to have a remote switch. Some of the best videos I seen seem to be from behind and above the kayak. I can't wait to see your videos. Do you have editing software and are you profecient with editing videos.

Glenn what kind of fish do you catch in Australia inland waters? Bass, crappie, bream, catfish? I know they have inland waters in Australia, it's just everyone from there is always talking about the great saltwater fishing there. I quess it is the same here, but kayaking seems to be taking off. I have fished from power boats all my life and have one now that will be sold this spring, but have re fell in love with fishing since I found kayaking. All my friends laugh at me but that's ok. I have always been different and I don't mind. Kayaking is my thing and I bet you'll love it. It is obvious you think so with what you have invested.

What kind of software for the camera to download and edit videos? Will it work on a MAC? Thanks

Hi Mark,

I simple copy files from the GoPro to the hard drive then import these files in Adobe Element 9 for video editing. I am not sure if Adobe elements will work on the mac but my next computer will a mac pro notebook also - sometime later this year.

We catch Bass, Yellow Belly, Baramundi and Cod mainly in our freshwater dams.

Kayak fishing is also getting popular in Australia, I think because, aside from being a lot of fun, it is quite low cost and appeals to the DIY element of many fishermen.

Hi,

I bought a GoPro HD Hero with helmet mount accessories but I also bought quite a few other accessories including suction cup and camera mount. To my knowledge unfortunately it does not have remote switch.

I am also planing for a behind style mount on a pole, but havn't figured out how to do this yet. Think I will end up with some sort of ram style mounts to allow the camera to swivel.

I use Adobe Element 9 for all my video editing. It is quite easy to use once the basics are mastered and also has the facilities for advanced editing if one is inclined.
