Hi---introducing myself, I'm Terry Roth, age 68 from Vashon Island, I've been a sea kayaker since the middle 1980's in a variety of kayaks, making numerous 2-3 week expeditions to Clayoquot Sound and Barkley Sound. Since 2009, I've been a Hobie owner---Revolution and now Adventure. Happy to be a member of the Hobie community! (I've been mostly fishing from my kayaks, for salmon and lingcod, with some success...)

Welcome Kallitype, I'm not sure where Vashon Island is but it sounds like some good fishing. Would you take these trips with other yakers. I live in Arkansas so I'm not privy to saltwater fishing, but we have some great bass, crappie, bream striped bass and trout within an hour of my house. I've only been kayaking about 5 months but I'm HOOKED. Selling the motor boat this spring. Haven't cranked it in 5 months. Learn to post pictures, I love to see you seayakers pictures. One of these days I'll get to take a vacation and head to the ocean to hookup with some saltwater fishing.

Hi Kallitype,

I know where Vashon Island is since I was born and raised in Puyallup. Back in the 70's I built a 16' fibreglass canoe which I used to launch at Owen's beach in Pt. Defiance park. I remeber vividly paddling across to Vashon and back on Sunday afternoons with friends just for something to do. Now I live on the Texas Gulf Coast just north of Corpus Christi. Different water and conditions to be sure but just as much fun (maybe more) in my Hobie Oasis than it was in the canoe. I have a brother who lives just across from you above Brown's Point in Tacoma. After years of conoeing he and his wife just purchased two sea HDPE kayaks. I haven't seen them yet so I don't know what he purchased exactly but I do know he is very excited about using them in the sound. Anyway, welcome to the Hobie forums. If you have any questions about anything, this is the place to bring them to. The natives are really friendly and eager to share their knowledge. - Roger
