Are the add on rudder knobs supposed to screw down tight??

They act as if the receptacle in the rudder lever is a different thread then the know screw? Neither one of the two knobs on my 2011 Oasis fit down more then a few threads.

I hope I can return them, $20 for knobs with the wrong thread isnt worth it.

There is a small plastic bit that the engineers added on some boats steering handles. Threaded into the bottom of the handle in the same location as the knob bolt. Remove that and the knob will thread all the way in... or shorten the knob's screw.
