Greetings!
I am hoping to get some information on pricing regarding the 2011 Outback and the 2011 Oasis, which are the two models my wife and I are currently considering. Money is very tight for us right now, and the final price is most definitely a big factor in deciding whether or not we even try to afford one of these things. I have spoken to my local Hobie dealership -- there is only one in my county -- but we receive very inconsistent information from the people at this dealership, regarding not only price but also technical features of the kayaks. We have been able to locate most of the technical information either on-line or from the Hobie technical literature, but as for price....we are still figuring this out. Questions.....
1. Does Hobie actually post Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP) for these kayaks?
2. Assuming that there are MSRP, do dealers generally adhere to them? Are the MSRP publically-posted, or is it up to the dealer's descretion to charge whatever they feel like for the product?
I don't expect to go to McDonald's and negotiate for a cheeseburger, but then, the price for the cheeseburger is clearly displayed. On the other hand, I do expect to negotiate when I go to buy a car from a dealership, but it that case, the MSPR is clearly defined and it is generally understood that the price is somewhat negotiable. In the case of my local Hobie distributor, there are no prices posted, and the answer to the "how much" question changes more than I am comfortable with.
How does one know what they should be paying for one of these kayaks?
Thanks in advance for any informed replies.
