DavieFL:
Many sailing clubs offer kayak and dinghy racks and storage. If you go to Sarasota Sailing squadrons web site they show their rates (
http://sarasotasailingsquadron.org/memb ... hip-rates/) I am assuming their rates are competative with other organizations elseware. We thought about joining but $450 dollars membership to get in and $325 /yr ea for boat storage racks is a little steep for something I can store in my garage (out of the sun), we have two boats. Plus we don't always launch from the same place and at least in my case it's just not a big deal to throw the boats on the roof when we plan to use them.
Sometimes over long weekends and stuff we just lock the two boats on top of the car with motorcycle locks. Keeping the boats on top of the car is actually for health reasons in my case, we can no longer go through the McDonalds drive thru with the boats on top of the car and I've lost 50 lbs (just kidding).
Actually the reason we sold our Sea Ray was it cost us $350 a month to store it at dry storage, and the hobby became very expensive ( boat $60k, storage $350/mo, maint $2500/yr, fuel $1k plus/yr). With the TI even with the motor and fuel I've only spent ( boat $6k, fuel $20, maint $20) over the last couple years and have way more fun than we ever had with the Sea Ray.
I like your idea though, I wonder if power boat storage places have a special rate for Kayaks and small sail boats.
