I read the card at the end of the video, "and is suitable for small to mid-size users" What does that mean? Does anyone know the capacity?
No offense, but the "average" American, is now considered large in other worldwide markets.

Quote:
Meanwhile, the average weight for (American) men aged 20-74 years rose dramatically from 166.3 pounds in 1960 to 191 pounds in 2002, while the average weight for women the same age increased from 140.2 pounds in 1960 to 164.3 pounds in 2002.

It's amazing the rudder handle was installed incorrectly/backwards!

Thanks!

Back in April I posted a wish list for a new Hobie. The Revo 11 sounds like my dream Hobie:

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=35193

The good news is that Hobie's gurus/engineers are constantly looking at their products and making changes to improve their yaks or like in this case changing/reducing their specs on their yaks for our safety.

The bad news is the change in weight load limits puts the Sport for many of us into a no buy category.

It seems that there is a market for a Hobie Mirage that is bigger than the Scout and smaller/lighter, stable and easier to handle than an Outback or Revolution for those of us who fish and would pack a day's gear and tackle on a Hobie Mirage that could handle us and our gear and still be light enough to get on/off or in/out of our pickups or our SUVs. Like an 10-11-12' footer weighing about 60#'s or less with the fishing necessities like rod mounts built in.

This market will increase in size as the boomers get older, less spry and feel the limitations of decades of over abuse of their bodies like bad shoulders, backs, hips and knees.

The continuing increase in gasoline prices and the impositions of those in charge of rivers, lakes and ocean shores, who do not like humans and as a result of their dislike, restrict shore access and boat fishing will increase the demand for fishable yaks.

Most of us will not be out in the ocean fishing for Marlin, but we have lakes and rivers where the mirage can be the difference in an enjoyable day from beginning to the end at home versus a paddle only yak.

I would be more than willing to 'beta' test any such yak."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The anti kayakers/humans in charge of getting people off our local rivers and lakes, the Napa/Sonoma areas struck again. We have a new park from land donated by Johnny Miller.

One of the big things in the new park was to be a kayak launch area. Somehow all the parking in the off road area got eliminated before the park opened. There are a grand total of 5 parking spaces over a quarter of a mile from the river. Then there is a steep paved grade for about 350 yards, and then there is a very steep unpaved area from the last paved/but no parking area down to the river. That last stretch will be come unaccessible during the winter rainy season. Your final reward if you get back to the launch site by calculating tides and river flow and then back up the unpaved area is about 350+ yards back up the steep grade to get to the 5 vehicle parking spaces.

The Revolution 11 if it has a 250 to 300 # load limit could be handled here.

Well, it was at ICAST so I'm guessing it's real :D As for why it's not out on anything, I would assume it's because that it's slated for 2012, and not 2011....so, consider it probably a prototype....

As for Matt, well, he aint gonna unveil anything until it's time, but now that the time has come, I'm sure he can fill us in on the specs of the yak....can't ya Matt? :D

I picked up my new 2011 Revolution on July 1, upgrading from a Mirage Classic. It does not have the 11 on the Revolution decal like the one in the video; that one also looks a bit more wide and stable and has an extra cup holder. Mine does, however, have a 2011 serial number. No matter--I LOVE THIS YAK!

Compared to the Classic, which I also loved, my 2011 Revolution is like riding in a Rolls after trading in your rumpsprung MG. My friends have Emotion, Wilderness and Ocean yaks; give me a Hobie any day.

I too wanted to buy a Sport, neighbor Grampa Spey, but the weight spec did decrease this year. I did not want to overload it as I am a very tall lady who is called Fred Sanford when friends see all my gear and homemade Bimini. Glad I tested the Revo instead.

Bring the Mrs. out to Rancho Murieta sometime, Grampa, and kayak on our little lakes. We took a Friends of the Napa River cruise last fall and saw that Johnny Miller land you mentioned--too bad that kayakers weren't in on the planning.

Did you all see the Ocean kayaker who caught the shark yesterday?

Thanks to Matt, the admiralty, the ranking officers, engineering gurus, and everyone who posts for your experience and expertise. I have been lurking for a long time and learned a lot from you all.

The 11 stands for 11 feet long....not 2011 :D It does look a little wider, but I think it's just because it's shorter so it creates an illusion of being wider :D

looks like its going to be a sweet little kayak! can not wait to see it in Europe.

regards to Dr.SteelheadCatcher...the rudder handle cand be installed in a couple of different directions depending on how the user likes it. this is probably their way of showing that to the public.

I would have probably pulled the trigger on the current Revo this week or next week.

However, this new Revo 11 appears to be what I have been looking for the past year. Our 2009 Oasis is great for my wife and I, and not great for a 72 year old guy on solos. This will be my new solo yak for yakking and fishing and the combo of the two.

We did the reverse and came from Sac to Napa in 1971. With the exception of the Nanny elite snob politicians trying to determine where we shop, drive and play, it is a great place to live. We are an hour from Bodega Bay. When we used to ski, about 3+ hours away from the Tahoe area. The Sonoma/Napa weather may be the best in America.

Napa's whine/wine attractions are in the process of being replaced by some very terrific high end restaurants with more to come. In the past few years, Napa has attracted some great restaurants for the natives and tourists smart enough to ask where to eat for less than a $100 per person. We are walking distance or a short drive from the Oxbow Center which has several great restaurants which are reasonably priced for the locals and tourists who find them.

Apparently the Revo 11.5 is a little wider than its longer brother.

As per the Hobie exec in this link.
