Greetings from Holland to all you Hobie kayak fans!
I have a little question: I own a custom-built Hobie Adventure Island (Adventure hull 2008, custom-built into AI configuration in 2010), and do enjoy my sailing and fishing. (I started out with an Outback but traded it for an AI about a year ago). I usually do my sailing out at sea, and fish from the Adventure hull (single hull or as an outrigger) in smaller inland waters like the Dutch canals in the Northern part of Holland. I do a lot of trolling for pike and perch, which works well with the Adventure powered by the Mirage drive fitted with turbo fins. (I've posted a number of kayaking videos on my Youtube channel 12071964TB, Theo Boiten's kayak videos, over the last year for anyone interested).
However, I have a rather serious lower back problem and now contemplate installing an electromotor in the Adventure for trolling, which I hope will easy the burden in my back. Of course I've looked into the possibility of getting an Evolve, but alas it's way above my budget.. Now I've seen a number of videos and discussions of Outbacks fitted with a Minn Kota Endura electomotor -pricing here in Holland of a Minn Kota Endura 30 with a lightweight Lithium battery plus battery charger is about 40% of an Evolve, so that's within my range.
Now I would very much like to hear from any of you people who have experiences using a standard electromotor (like the Minn Kota Endura 30) with a Lithium battery fitted to a Hobie Adventure -does it affect the stability of the kayak, what are the options to fit it in the area behind the seat, what are the best options to stall the Lithium battery; photos?
Cheers & looking forward to any replies!
Greetings from Groningen, Holland
