Transporting Adventure Island

Anybody with experience transporting an Adventure Island?

I sold my Adventure and am told to expect my Island in mid-September. What is it going to take to transport the Island?

It looks like removing the outriggers will be requied during transport, but does anybody know for sure?

I carried on my roof rack with the hull in a standard position upside down. The two amas next to it and the mast / sail tied next to that. The akas (crossbars) and other gear in the bed of my truck.

Is there any problem carrying it on a small trailer with the amas attached?

I have a small boar trailer long enough for it with plenty of flat support. I'm hoping I don't have to remove the amas everytime I want to transport the yak.

The Hobie hulls are not designed to be stored right side up on a flat surface. So transporting the Adventure hull right side up on a flat surface, with the added weight of the amas, would probably get you a dented hull pretty quick.

If you could build a cradle to support the whole rig it might work. But getting it in and out might be a little tricky.

The few minutes it takes to set up and take down may be well worth the trouble.

The Hobie folks haul these things around all the time -- gotta think they know the best way to transport them without wrecking them! It's something to think about.

I typically carry my Mirage upside down (and leave it stored that way on the trailer). I haven't had much issue with this.

Any problem with doing the same with the Island?

I'm planning on fabricating a cover for it using a tarp cut to fit for protection against sun, guano, etc. Anything else I should be concerned about?

You would have to support the hull and amas separately. The aka / arms should not carry the weight while driving. I would disassemble (Very simple and quick) and carry the main hull as suggested, upside down. Strap the amas down separately.
