I'm excited to say we've joined the Hobie Mirage Drive club with a 2015 Outback and a leftover 2014 Pro Angler 12. I originally set out to get the Outback for myself, but between the dealer and my fiancé this became a "we" thing where I have the PA12 and she has the Outback. Things actually worked out better this way!

Originally my plan was to get on the Vermont lakes and ponds, early in the morning, to snap some photos of the wildlife. I figured the Outback's stability mixed with ease of transporting was the best option for that, but I'm finding the PA12's stability and ease of moving in and out of the truck to maybe be the better option. I feel a lot better offloading onto the PA's skid plates in the gravel/rocks. It also seems the rail system on the PA12 could make a specialized "tripod" stability system for the camera something cool. So, with both yaks in the quiver we've got some good options!

With the intro out of the way, I'll pose a goal I'm trying to modify the PA12 into. I'd like to carry roughly 20lbs of camera + lens for wildlife photography. My usual land-based tripod legs are too big to work with the seats in both the PA and Outback. Plus, I like the idea of making something more purpose-built for the kayak. This would be an early morning, in-land pond, used rig. No need to worry about winds, currents, etc. Just need the effects of a good tripod from the PA12. Any thoughts on this goal are very welcome!
