 Post subject: loose rudder handle

My left hand rudder handle (the handle that raises the rudder) has become very loose to the point where it does not work any longer.

There is so much slack that it no longer snaps back into its starting position. My son said he heard a snap before it became non-functional.

Any hints on how to fix ?
