Mirage drive problem

I have a 2011 Oasis. While in use, the Mirage Drive is unlocking from the two clips. First one side, then the other. I am able to engage the locks again with my feet and keep pedaling. What gives?

Have you checked the tightness of the click and go receivers to make sure they are not loose?
There are two Allen-head screws that hold the each assembly to the hull.

To see if your shaft is rotating, mark it on top with a Sharpie and see if the mark moves as you operate the Drive. The 2011 shafts are supposed to be splined so there should be no rotation, but this will confirm whether there is a problem with the shaft or somewhere else.

PS: What happens if you swap Drives/locations?

Are you by chance hitting the releases with your heels of your feet. I've done that before.

If the central shaft is not centred this can cause the catches to open. It would be worth measuring it up on both sides and comparing just to check...

Okay, it seems that the clip-ins need to be heavy lubricated for them to stay locked. However, a new problem has come up.
The last time out, I could not pull drive out of the hull. The big shaft connecting both fins together has moved forward about a half inch. And was hitting on the bottom of the hull. What gives? Is there a keeper to prevent the shaft from moving?

Yes, there is a 1/8" Allen head set screw that is located in-between the fins...that is to say at the end of the forward fin and the front of the aft fin.....directly under the large diameter main shaft inside the plastic housing.
It sounds like the Allen head screw may have fallen off and is missing??

There is also a dimple in the shaft that the set screw fits into. Caution about over tightening. You can crack the spine.

On the click and go flipping open. A rotating shaft is the likely cause. You may have an older drive in a newer boat issue.

I apologize , mine is a 2012 that I bought new. I checked to see if the shaft was spinning and it was not.

Maybe the drive rocks excessively while pedaling? Tolerance of the levers may be tight. Rocking the drive could walk the lever open.

If still an issue after the lubrication... check the drive fit in the well. It is possible to add a pad to one end of the spine or well to limit fore and aft rocking motion.

Alright, I tightened up the Allen wrench fitting for the main shaft that connects the fins. I noticed the small shaft that connects both sides of the drive can also freely move side to side if lightly tapped. One side was protruding out farther than the other side. Is there a keeper for that shaft? I did not see one.

The "drum" shaft is a press fit. No keeper pin. Once centered it should be OK unless you drop the drive on the ground and that taps it off center again.

I had explained earlier that the drive would unlock while pedaling. I lubed the locks up . That seemed to help, but it did it again over the weekend. I noticed the shaft was not centered. I was able to tap it back even very easily. Are there bearings that should be replaced?

No bearings related to this issue.

Are you sure you have the drum shaft as shown above (with the splines?):



Next to check is that the lever is able to fully lock without contacting the well forward of the latch. If the click and go mechanism is slightly forward... that could prevent it from fully locking. Check for clearance.

If the shaft is moving off center on its own, you might try exposing the splines, putting a little Locktite Blue on them and re-centering (the splines should be clean). If you need something stronger, a dab of epoxy should also work. If the C&G still releases, there are a couple of ways to lock it down (it's highly unusual to to go to this extreme).
