I am looking at a used 1999 Hobie Mirage. The serial number indicates it is a model "U." Whatever that means, since Hobie has not been gracious enough for some reason to publish their model codes.

Does anyone have any insight into this year and model that I should take into consideration when I go to look at the boat?

Thank you very much in advance,

Puto.

I would make sure there's no cracking/leaks in the hull (and around the drive well most importantly). Here's a link to help understand leak detection techniques: https://www.hobie.com/au/en/articles/hu ... ection,88/ Control lines can always be re-routed, and if the Mirage Drive is in good condition then you're in luck there but replacement parts can likely be obtained if needed. Back in this day, there was only one version of the Mirage kayak. The Outback was introduced in 2001. Here's a link to a page that helps you understand serial number coding: https://www.hobie.com/articles/boat-ser ... cation,15/

Hope this helps.
