Hi All
I have never owned a Hobie before and was looking for a tandem kayak when I saw a
used Outfitter Tandem near me for $400. But with no drive, or other accessories.
It comes with seats and rudder (and dirt) and that is about it.

1. Assuming the hull is not damaged are these kayaks suitable for use with NO drive?

2. Is the drive unit really as expensive as I see on line - approx $800 each?

I will only use this for flat water lake/river use

Thanks

It’s a very stable yak, and wide. The only hobie I would avoid is the pre-09 rudder that doesn’t fold up against the top of the hull. They get in the way, grab everything, and break. But, y’know if that’s all you have access to, go for it.

Used mirage drives pop up regularly and can be had for a couple hundred bucks.

As far as any used poly kayak, check closely for cracks and excessive wear especially around the keel, drive well, rudder, and scupper holes.
