I just took my new pro angler out in la jolla for first ride. Still trying to figure everything out.

When im landing back to shore with some surf, is it essential to pull up rudder and skeg to prevent damage, or can I keep them down to help steer? I noticed if they hit the sand they appear to retract up as long as im moving forward?

Landing with the rudder and/or skeg deployed is fine. They retract up when you hit the sand, and then you can cleat them up once you're safely on the sand.
