Please understand that we are not anti-fishing. I am the founder of Kayaking For The Birds and I am a lifetime fisherman. But I do think we need to clean up after ourselves.
Also, please understand that this can be some of the most pleasurable community service you could ever do. In addition, in some locations volunteering to do this might give you free launching or access to the water on days when it is closed to the general public or other bennies.
Right now we are a Lake Hodges, CA group and are recruiting kayakers to help us out. But I also hope this will be replicated elsewhere, because the problem is everywhere. And even though most of this fishing line is not lost by kayakers, our boats are very well suited to the task of retrieving line from near-shore rocks and vegetation.
