I have a Mirage Sport that I have stored on its side since new (5-6 months). Due to space restrictions living in an apartment, I’ve had to settle on having it chained up leaning on another kayak up against a wall on about a 60 degree angle, so not completely on its side. So far it seems to be handling it ok, although I noticed my storage hatch doesn't sit flush on the left/right hand sides when closed - I’ve looked back on early photos and it looks like it’s always been like that.

I’m starting to get paranoid now after reading the forums about storing Hobies on their side, and going into long term winter storage now wonder if I need to store it flat upside down. The garage is relatively controlled in terms of temperature, and we don’t get very cold winters here in Australia. It’s also on carpet not exposed concrete floor.

Given the Sport is more compact than the Outbacks and PAs, is it still prone to warping? Should I be worried about storing it this way?

I don’t know the answer to your question but if you have the room to store it on the rails I would do that and not have to worry about it.

It's just not ideal as it will take up quite a lot more space, and the way I have the kayaks stored at the moment is very neat.

It looks to me that you could store one kayak upside down on the floor on 2x4s or pvc pipe. Then store the other one above it on a rack that you make . Could be easily made out of 2x4s. It won’t take up any more room in length or width.
