For those who are interested in speed and / or range, here is a bit of reference information I've gathered over the past year using an Adventure with Turbofins. These are non-stop GPS speeds for relatively calm water, little wind, no current or tide effects.
7.6 to 7.7 MPH -- sprint -- 15 seconds
5.6 to 5.7 MPH -- fast cruise -- 1/2 hour
5.3 to 5.4 MPH -- moderate cruise -- 1 hour
5.1 to 5.2 MPH -- extended cruise -- 2 hours
Your speed might be faster or slower, but note the relationship. It takes a lot of extra effort to gain a little speed. A faster hull can ease the effort though, as you can see below.
With access to the local dealer's fleet, here are some 1 hour cruise distances for different models (using Turbofins):
Adventure -- 5.3 to 5.4 miles
Revolution -- 5.0 to 5.1 miles
Outback ('07 hull) -- 4.8 miles +/-
(Note: these differences would grow with heavier wind and chop).
Finally, St fins seem to
cruise at about the same speed as Turbos, but at a much quicker (30%+/-) cadence. (Turbos, of course, have faster acceleration and higher top speed).
Speed or range is is just one aspect in the choice of a boat, but it's still nice to know what to expect.
