The first dozen times I took my new Outback out in the Gulf, there was absolutely no water inside the hull. The last time I went out, the water was a bit rough and so it took about ten minutes to get beyond surf. Waves were almost continuously breaking over the bow as I passed through the surf. When I finished kayaking, I discovered several gallons of water inside the hull. I assume it leaked through the forward hatch while going through the surf.

Has anyone figured out how to make a tighter seal on the large forward hatch?

Thanks,

Bernie

Theres a dude outta San Diego that has a kewl site called watermanatwork.com

He has a bunch of how to's regarding kayak fishing including modifying the hatch(i.e. sealing the factory gasket, installing hatch straps, and installing a second gasket (so you end up with gasket meeting gasket) )

These how to's can be found here
