Hi everyone! I'm new to the site, got a Hobie for Christmas. Some friends I know call me Mr. Fix just like my wife and kids do. Some even call me Detective gadget. I'm kind of an Inventor at Heart always looking to make things to do repetitive things easier. I'm a proud owner of a Hobie OB SUV now and becoming a week-end worrier with it since Christmas. I'm a newby to this forum but wish to share the idea I've come up with for launching the craft. I go out loaded for Bear every time I go out for a 10-12 hour day. Get a laugh out of that if you feel like it, but that's just me. I am what I am as an Old Salt would say. 15 Yr. seasoned Navy Vet. So I transport her upright and that means she's already rigged up and ready to go when I get there. That cuts down on set up time to launch. I can’t post the picks here but if you’re interested in a cheap version of a portable Boat Ramp for launching your HOBIE Style Craft drop me a line. I'll send you a few picks. The conception of the Idea starts with two 4â€

Hey Quake,
Welcome to the Hobie site and to yak fishing in general. Lots of great folks and info here! BTW, where are you located? And don't forget to post pics of your exploits, especially those involving rigging tips.
Best,
Dick

I want to post some pictures of my cool invention! It helps me launch faster at any of the fishing sites I plan to visit. It's the cheapest method I think NOT on the market. I created a Portable Boat Ramp/Transport system for a short bed truck. I just slip it right in when I get there! Guess I'll have to post them through infohobiecat.com ? That is what I'm guessing? Just sent them some pictures of it.
I seen the fish they pull out of the Pacific Ocean over there! WOW! I thought Red Drum were BIG? Here on the East Coast, they match up with the tarpon we can get over here in the Atlantic, but just like you all over there. You better have a boating friend near by JIC! We don't have that many doing pictures I guess?

Here is his story / pictures:

As a Newby to the site.

I wanted to post some pictures of my cool invention!

It helps me launch faster at any of the fishing sites I plan to visit. It's the cheapest method I think NOT on the market. I created a Portable Boat Ramp/Transport system for a short bed truck. I just slip it right in when I get there!

I could have added two more 10' pipes to this thing! My all new mobile boat ramp! I could add another set of pipes inside the first set and make it even further into the water. (Or make it over the soft mud?) But this set seems to be just the right length already. She slides in and is bow buoyant before drop off. My Yak is upright in travel, sitting tighter in the Truck Bed and ready for launch when I get there. Four 3' Bungee cords (Stretched two on the Craft and two on the rack.) will pull her back in after lifting her level again. Works great! If someone gets rich over this idea, please! Just throw me a bone! I think up stuff like this all the time. I’ve got a craving to invent things for redundant work that makes my life easier. Use the pulley system if you need a little force in the retrieval game plan as you see by the picture.

I used the green cord to keep the pipes from coming out the end of the tail gate. The two yellow bungees to pull it in once it all gets lifted level. Use more stretch cords if you’re older than me. I just made 50 “LOLâ€

Hey Quake,
WTG--I like it! Now all I need is a pickup truck so I can put your mods to the test. This is about the best that I can come up with in the interim.

Good thinking Quake.

Apalach, why couldn't you use that same design? Just use shorter pieces coupled together, maybe a smaller diameter pipe as well.

Oh, and Quake...........Go Navy! BMU-1 vet here.
