I am moving my outback from 1,300 miles this week (Missouri to Florida). I have a Thule system on my F150 pickup. The Thule system uses the 878XT Set-to-Go Saddle kayak rack on the forward position and 875XT Hydro Glide Saddle kayak rack in the rear. I have been loading the kayak with the rightside up and the rudder in the forward position.

I am concerned that the Set-to Go Saddle rack does not have enough surface contact and may cause wear during such a long drive. :?:

I use that combination also. but for a longer trip, it may be better to take the saddles off and carry the boat upside down on the gunwales where there is more support. 8)

Thanks Roadrunner,

That makes a lot of sense. I will add a little foam padding for the gunwales.

Brooksville, FL here I come...
