I agree with NCMBM. If the rig is loose then the pin should come out fairly easily. If you tighten the forestay too much before you pull the pin it will be a beast to get out.

Agree with using a screwdriver as well. Much easier to get out with the handle.
Also lube the shank before you insert it.

If it still won't come out you might have too many (or too thick) spacers under the ball.
