What you need to do is have a gimballed holder ,like they have for stoves, BUT not as big of course. what you need is a drink sized gimbal holder and hang that of the rear Bar. Now on this rear bar you will attach a bar approx
300mm high this will get it of the deck and your drink as well. Top of bar will be bent over 180deg and hang down 50mm, to this you will attach your drink holder/gimball,,WALLA. its all a little hard to put into words but if i had pen and paper i could draw it. anyway why dont you just pull in somwhere and have a tasty beverage CHEERS PEPSI

open beverage, chug a bit, stick it in your life jacket where it buckles in the front. I've been on the trap pull the drink out when i don't need both stick and sheet in hands. Spill a bit in a tack but not to bad.

Be aware, the 5" bottle port is designed for Viking 5" Poly Ports and are a bit undersized for the Viking 5" ABS Ports. You can tell what port you have by looking under the existing lid, the ABS ports are labeled, you guessed it, ABS. I bought 2 of the bottle ports any way, even though I have ABS ports and plan to wrap a couple winds of vinal tape around the bottle port threads to tighten the fit.

At our local beach a guy had attached with zip ties a cheap plastic cup holder from a discount auto parts to his stays. one on each side. so you don't have to take the beer with you when you tack.. You just have two in cuzies going at the same time. they were at the right height and didn't get wet. Looked like a great cheap idea!

This is one of the best post's I have seen on this forum. Great to see a bunch of Hobiecatters focus on a REAL world Hobie sailing problem. i also am going to try the abs bottle port, other than that drink fast. I have made a holder on the rear lacing, but the drink can take on water in big wind, at that time we sail till we puke then go to shore refuel and go again.

Great advice here. Thanks for all the replies!

How do I zip tie a coozie to the stay? Doesn't it just slide down?

The cheep-o drink holders from the truck stop didn't work worth a crap hanging from the boom. It was a disaster. Matter of fact, I lost a couple drinks when I managed to hit my head on the damn thing. Not the best idea.

What do you all use for coolers? Soft sided I assume... Where do you mount and how to you secure them?
