I am in the process of finishing a spin install on a standard H18 comp tip mast. I have no reservations of using a spin on that mast as others have stated that the main HAS to stay sheeted tight downwind flying the spin, acting as a backstay. Though I have not sailed this rig yet. My spinnaker is a used Tiger sail that will wind up being recut to properly fit my mast. After I have used this rig for a while I will see about investing in a sail custom made for my boat.

BTW, for comp tip protection, get a can of epoxy paint or similar. I used white, works great. It also matches my clear aluminum mast better than black.

I'm flying a F18 spin off a SX mast. The original tang is too low and you will need to attach another higher up. I suggest a tang and bail system with the bail circling the comptip.

I am currently considering taking a solid SE mast and adding 18" of comptip to it, creating an SX mast with a short tip. This will allow any F18 main and spin to fit on a SE without needing new wires and mast. I need to take some more measurements to confirm but I believe it to be possible and would provide a stiffer mast for my squaretop.
