Corrosion at SX Wing Fitting - stainless and alu

Hi, at the base of my SX wing, where the tube connects to the fitting (fitting joins to boat)... a crack has developed around the SS rivet.... and powdery corrosion is visible.

I'm going to drill the rivets out, clean it up, put some 3m or scotch pvc electrical tape.

Questions:
1 - how to repair that crack? it's about an inch and a half....

2 - should I use aluminium rivets - are they strong enough ?

Cracks in the wing could be a real problem. If the tube fails, you and your crew drop into the water as the boat sails away. Think life threatening failure. Stainless rivets are required. This is a safety type of repair and you should have a dealer take a look at what you are doing.

Years ago, a world class sailor sailing a "turbo" hobie 33 monohull in the San Francisco Bay drown when the wings he was sitting on broke. He was wearing foul weather gear and boots and could not swim with the gear on. I guess this is another reason to use lifejackets, but the picture of the sailing crew dropping into the water and the boat sailing away is what I am trying to get you to picture. It could be a long cold swim at best, and a fatal error at worst.
