Alternative to roller furling?

My roller furling decided to commit suicide when I trailered it to the lake a couple weeks back. I never use the thing anyway except to hold the lines together so rather than purchasing something I never use has anyone pieced together something to hold he lines together? I managed to make it all work using half a dozen shackles but if someone makes a kit or has a clean setup for hooking the three lines together I'd be interested. Thanks

Two ideas-

1st would be to get a pair of custom bridle wires made up that have the standard forks at the bow tang end but with nicopressed thimbles on the other end (where the bridles & forestay come together). Then use a bow shackle and a shroud adjuster fork at the bridle connection (same as the Hobie 16 system).

2nd idea would be to convert the Hobie 20 bridle connector for use on the 18. You'd either need a custom forestay (with a threaded stud at the bridle end) or you'll have to come up with another clever idea to make it work.

But the real question is why the aversion to using the furler? It's a convenience item that really makes the boat more enjoyable because you don't have to deal with a flapping jib every time you stop sailing to take a break.

Might as well try for a fully battened jib

There is a stainless piece that was designed for the Tiger to allow for removal of the roller furler. It should be a very close, if not exact fit, for the H18 furler. I had thought of removing mine as well and using this bracket as it also has a support for the spin pole built in. After sailing in 30kt gusts recently the ability to furl has become much more attractive.

I have a furler for sale if interested in going back to stock set up.
