I am having to replace the sails ( main, jib, spinnaker ) on my Hobie 18's ( 3 boats ) and want to "upgrade" the boats to new sails based on a more modern shape and material use than on the original 18. ( Also sail Hobie Tiger ) So would appreciate some advice or information from people that has been there/done that to a Hobie 18.
The new sails would have 3 main differences to the standard sails supplied by Hobie, be made from Pentex ( laminate ) material rather than Dacron, have a radial cut instead of Cross cut and finally a square top like on the Tiger. Now I know that this is deviating from the original design - is there anyone out there that sails Hobie 18's who has gone thru with a modification like this and did it benefit the boat in terms of overall feel?

Radial cut pentex is very nice. The only issue I have with my squaretop is hoisting it, pulls out of the comptip going up. It does add power to the boat and gets more air when the wind is light. I really like the performance of my Whirlwind pentex main.
