hobie 16 trailering

I am looking to buy a used Hobie 16, but my neighborhood won't allow me to keep it in the driveway. Since my yard is a fairly steep hill(30°), i cant just pull it around. I was wondering how hard it would be to move the Hobie onto the ground from the trailer, so i could drag it around safely. Would it be easier to disassemble the Hobie and carry it in pieces?

The least amount of effort on your part will increase the times you actually go sailing.Do not erect barricades that get in your way. If you take your boat apart,than you must take time to put it back together.Can you simply back around behind your house and park more parallel to the slope perhaps cut a small area closer to being level or split the difference and end up on a more manageable spot.Maybe get some landscape block and back fill a more level parking lot.You need to be able to back in your back yard,hook up to your boat and go to the lake.Put some thought into making your sailing time simple so you will spend more time sailing and less time trying to go sailing.Maybe park your Hobie in your garage(folding tongue on trailer) and hang the mast from the ceiling diagonally.I am sure your wife won't mind park her car in the driveway ...as long as your boat is safe in the garage.

Wow, 30 degrees is more than fairly steep, thats 3 feet up for each ten forward. My yard has a hill and I store the boat in the back during the winter on the trailer and use a 'trailer dolly' to move it around. I think depending on your size and strength this might be an option for you and you could leave it on the trailer. An aluminum trailer would help too. Harbor Freight Tools sells them for less than 50 bucks, I love that junk shop.

You could utilize cat trax to move the boat around back. Doesn't resolve the trailer storage issue but at least the boat would be at hand and quickly loadable. Could be worth the investment in quickening your load/unload time as Bill wisely points out.

CAt track will help but to answer your question directly if your hobie sits on rollers on the trailer it should be a breeze to slide it offand into the yard.

By the way: I am only 15, so i don't have a wife.

and since you are only 15, its a pain to convince your parents to get parts, suck as cat trax lol. im only 17, so i have to deal with the same thing lol. im still not sure what im going to do about my sail. there are 2 tears in the main sail. im probably going to have to fix them myself. not sure my dad is going to pay to have someone fix it lol.

put a winch on the trailer hook it to the tow vehicle at the top of the hill and use the winch to get the boat and trailer down the hill use same to get boat and trailer up the hill

watch the tong of the trailer so it doesnt eat your yard lol

it wouldn't be hard for 2-3 people to carry it on and off the trailer.
