New sails

I want new hobie sails for my 86 h16.when i get them from my hobie dealer what do i need to do
to get them on the boat? dose the jib have a luff wire,clue plate,tell tails,plastic hank that clips
on the forstay,batten pocket protectors ? dose the main come with clue,,head,and tack plates?
how about hobie H logos,and the round H16 class insignia? Will new sails fit and work good on my old boat?

I talked to my hobie dealer,he did not know what needed to be done to the sails after i recived them to get them up the mast. maybe i can try a different hoibie dealer.Just wanted some ducks in a row when the sails came.

They come complete except for battens. You may have to trim old battens shorter for the jib. The shape has changed a bit over the years. Other than that... good to go.

I'd recommend finding a nice set of older sails, you will spend a fortune on new sails, and they won't be nearly as pretty. They literally don't make em like they used to. Admittedly not easy to come by but can be found. A full set of new sails will run you the cost of an entire 1980s cat. If you are willing to spend that kind of money, just buy an entire boat with the sails you like and sell the bits you don't want anymore (including the old boat maybe)?

Im going to have to disagree with RP, respectfully. You're right in one way, they don't make em like they used to, and that's proabably a good thing but seriously the new sails are made with better materials and have a more uniform stretch than the old ones and will probably last longer too. They aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. If your just out fun sailing every few weekends, older sails are probably the way to go, but if you're racing, nothing beats a new crisp set of sails to give you an edge! I do wish Hobie would mix up the colors a bit more, like the old school ones as they are great looking and very varied. Good luck!

I also have to weigh in on this. New Hobie sails are da bomb, they are made infinitely better than the "old days", and you can get colours just not all the colours of yesteryear, so if you are going to stay with the 16 you might as well bite the bullet and buy new.

I have a nice looking set of keoke sails,but they are 32 years old.the boat moves well with these sails.i feel that the h16 is a performance boat.
Sails and sail shape are a big part of how the boat performs.I have never been on a newer h16,but newer sails might give me an idea of what i am missing.
I do plan on having a 16 for another 32 years.

Hey Doug I love Keoke! And I also have an old but good set of sails,and they work very well, But if you are going to race and want to be consistent you will love new sails; look at some of the colours available you will find some that look great.
