I'm just about to start restoring the hulls (exciting), so all that's left is to acquire a few more parts. In the mean time, I was given a pair of beat up sails. I'm not a big fan of the colors (or stains for that matter), but they were free so I'll use em' for now. There is a place here in Buffalo that will custom make sails however I want for around $1600 (pirate skull and crossbones and all!). I'm planning on having a set made up after next year.

My question is: How can I find out what the original sail numbers were for this boat? The original sails are long gone. Is this something I can find out from the serial numbers? I know I don't need to have the original numbers, but I would like to - just because.

There's no way to tie the original sail number to the serial number on the boat. You can get in the ballpark with the manufacturing date on the serial number (within a couple thousand), but that's about it.

Just pick a number.
