HI All,

Great forum.

I recently aquired a '79 H16 and it has a problem;

The rudder cams are stuck solid and I have read a number of posts, etc. I am trying to free up the plunger from the cam opening but so far no go.

Wondering if one could use a brass or SS threaded rod in place of the Delrin screw. Would be easy to make and, if it is kept lubed it shouldn't sieze.

Any thoughts?

No. Bad idea.

You put two dissimilar metals in an electrolyte (water) and you have a battery. The less noble metal (aluminum) will corrode at a ferocious rate. The metals will be virtually welded together with corrosion.

Replace the plastic screw and put the new one in with a bit of white lithium grease on the threads. No worries.

I thought of that after posting... Using a bit of BFFI I have managed to work the cam loose and get the rudder mechanism to function until I can get a pair of screws.

Thanks for the reply.
Ed
