question on mast tang placement

Is the mast tang on a comp tip mast lower than on a standard aluminum mast? My boat originally had a comp tip and when I replaced with an aluminum mast the forestay is nearly impossible to attach to the chainplate on the bridle, even with the extension and with the shrouds set at the 3rd hole on thh shrouds. Tried a standard forestay and also an aussie forestay from murrays.

On that subject, the new forestay is vinyl covered so do I still use the twist lock at the top of the jib with an aussie system?

The tangs should be at the same height, but who knows?

You must have gotten an aftermarket forestay, since the Hobie forestay is not vinyl coated and it's a different type of wire (7x19 vs 1x19) that's more flexible.

You don't have to use the clip in any case.

Thanks Matt - just really strange that none of the forestays reach the bridle easily

I live near the beach and see people trying to step the mast with the boat pointing uphill on a dune or steep grade. They always swear the forestay is too short. I tell them to point the boat downhill and everything is okay.
